사람들이 자기 본성에 맞고 이롭다고 여기는 것을 추구하지 못하게 하는 일은 얼마나 잔인한가! 그들이 잘못을 저지른다고 네가 화를 낼 때, 너도 어떤 의미에서는 그 추구를 막고 있다. 그들은 자기 본성에 맞고 이롭다고 믿기 때문에 분명 그런 것들을 향해 움직인다. “하지만 실제로는 그렇지 않은데.” 그렇다면 화내지 말고 그들에게 가르쳐 주고 무엇이 잘못인지 보여 주어라.

How cruel it is not to allow men to strive after the things which appear to them to be suitable to their nature and profitable! And yet in a manner thou dost not allow them to do this, when thou art vexed because they do wrong.
